Transmission 30: R&D 2024: Fiction & slowing down
Here come insights and behind-the-scenes from our futures practice! A glimpse into our uncommon approach, to keep updated or to know what to expect when time traveling with us.
This is a transmission ruled by a Summer solstice.
Happy (northern) summer!
Welcome back to The Time Travel Transmissions.
Spring and Summer are R&D seasons at The Time Travel Agency.
And transmissions during this time will be ruled by celestial events!
Each transmission will broadcast one line of investigation and research.
Today: Fiction & slowing down
The following audio file is not our property, it's been embedded to make it easier to play it directly and begin the transmission smoothly, but it belongs to Hidden Brain. It is about the science of slowing down and of Savoring.
This is a 50-minute commitment and that’s the point of this transmission.
How does fiction help people to pause and reflect? Does it offer other rhythms in which to immerse oneself as it offers other worlds? Is reflection flavorful if we are in hyperspeed?
How to slow down and experience fiction and slow down, A Solstice Proposal
How about these worlds to immerse oneself in / to slow down just by going.
Instructions: transcribe on a piece of paper, bring to secluded spot, read four times out loud, transport oneself to continue the story however and wherever, do not write it down nor record in any way.
"The Whispering Garden"
A recluse tends to a garden where flowers speak in cryptic whispers. Each bloom predicts the future but it takes different lengths of time and care for flowers to be able to speak.
"The City of Silence"
Amidst the chaos of a bustling city, a sound engineer discovers a hidden chamber where absolute silence reigns. Within, she encounters delicate beings who communicate through patterns of silence, light, and sound."The Stillness"
Somehow in a desert oasis, people encounter alternate versions of themselves wandering the shifting sands and leafy palm trees. As they navigate this surreal landscape, they find themselves comforted in a moment of stillness, allowing them to contemplate the paths they've traveled (and to savor the ones yet to come).“The Hourglass"
In a mist-covered village, a traveler is gifted an hourglass that controls the flow of time for the entire village. As they turn the hourglass over, they realize that each grain of sand represents a moment of stillness. Villagers decide to pause and appreciate the beauty of their world.

The Time Travel Agency has been honored to receive the August Wilson Archive Artist-Scholar Grant from the University of Pittsburgh this spring!
The studio was chosen among a group of scholars, artists, and educators to receive funding to explore the archive and deliver a creation to share with the Pittsburgh community. Our framework will be to see the archive as a future place where his legacy has something to tell us in 2024-25.
We will begin work this autumn, and our piece(s) will be released in November and then throughout winter and spring 2025.
